This experience allows you to create a dialogue with each other and with God, to create a higher and broader understanding of what it means to be married.
While faith is a powerful part of this process, the focus of the Marriage Encounter experience is on the ups and downs of married life.
Married couples of any denomination, mixed-faith, or without religious affiliation are welcome!
Faithful to the Roman Catholic Church’s definition that marriage is a covenant that exists between one man and one woman, any reference to “marriage” or “couple” made by Worldwide Marriage Encounter is in this context.

Priests and religious are welcome.
They are an important part of our faith community.

What does “marriage” mean to Worldwide Marriage Encounter?

Worldwide Marriage Encounter is faithful to the Roman Catholic Church’s teaching that marriage is a covenant that exists between one man and one woman. Any reference to marriage or couple made by WWME is in this context.

What is the Marriage Encounter Weekend experience?

The Worldwide Marriage Encounter experiences typically are held in a hotel or retreat house and may begin on a Friday evening or a Saturday morning, continuing all day Saturday and culminating on Sunday afternoon.
Sleeping accommodations and meals are provided. We ask participants to arrange care for their family members and pets for the duration of the experience.

What is a Virtual Weekend Experience?

Follow the same schedule of a two or three- day weekend experience but are attended from home, using video conference software.
Participants receive materials by regular mail and are offered a training session to familiarize with the software prior to the experience.

We are looking to get married in the church, is Marriage Encounter the same as Marriage Prep?

No, the Marriage Encounter Experience is NOT the same as Marriage Preparation classes. Marriage Encounter experiences are for couples who are either currently married in the church or civilly married.
If you are currently in a civil marriage and are planning to marry in the Catholic Church (marriage convalidation) to receive the sacrament of Matrimony, YES! This may be the experience for you! Just confirm with your pastor. A certificate can be provided for him as well.
If you are marrying for the first time and are not currently in a civil marriage, you should attend a Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend. The Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend provides the typical Pre-Cana Marriage Preparation subjects.

I hear priests, seminarians, and sisters can attend experiences. Why?

Priests and religious are an important part of our faith community. Their relationship with the people they serve in their church communities is actually similar to the relationship of husbands and wives, since open and honest communication is key to true understanding and empathy. In a helpful, loving way, the experience helps both married couples and religious better understand themselves, each other in their Sacrament (of Marriage or Holy Orders), and their relationship with God.
